GO HOME WHATS GOING DOWN BTB BEATS INTIMATE AND UNDERGROUND
IN DEMAND HOLOLOGIC THE LOCALE FRESH BEATS

The Crew

updated January 24, 2010

THANK YOU for visiting bringthebeats version… the one after the last.

This space has gone through many transformations throughout its quasi-maturation process that began on October 4th 2002. We’ve had some amazing contributors over the years, including Lisa Sant (littlemissbluedress), who pioneered the ‘In Demand’ series and has since moved on to an exciting new assignment with DJ Mag Middle East. Samiha Kahn (Mo’Bliss), the initiator of ‘The LocALe’ who continues to promote the local hood with her off-the-cuff blog SMASHMISHA and Alex Fish of Holosound who continues to lay down some Holologic from time to time, an in-depth look into the peaks and valleys of today’s underground talent.

However, throughout it’s time; bringthebeats has mostly been my take on the house music scene as seen through the influence of who I often refer to as ‘the crew’. Barney is my alter ego in the nocturnal land of the truly free and uninhibited. It’s the name I was given as a chubby, crew-cutted university student and which eventually morphed into BarneyIllfingas in the heyday of club scene’s messageboard madness.

Barney is the name you’ll see on virtually all of the posts moving forward and is the only person that speaks for the views expressed in this blog, even though I will often use the plural ‘we’ when presenting my personal views and experiences. This is because I truly appreciate all the criticism, contribution and support I’ve received from ‘the crew’ while persevering in this movement and will always cherish the relationships formed in the process.

No two deserve more credit than my wife Adriana aka Betty and my partner in club crime Anthony aka ‘Man International’. These two have been by my side virtually every step of the way and continue to be the ones I can count on when the going gets tough, rough and busy. They are the two I lean on to keep this thing going well beyond anything I ever dreamed it would be.

Want to be featured on bringthebeats?

If you’re somebody who’d like to be profiled on the site, here’s what we’re looking for. bringthebeats is from a dance floor perspective so we’re mostly interested in promo and live compilations (we’d prefer to listen to at least one of each).

Feel free to pass on production if you’d like us to more accurately hear your personal style, we definitely understand that quality studio skills are vital to today’s most successful artists. However, what we’ll work with are mixes that are on the groovier, funkier tip. It has to be house or within any of its sub-genres, deep, progressive or tech. Pure techno, electro, trance or minimal will be lost on us.

You can contact us through the form below or upload your music directly to our SoundCloud drop box.

Please understand that we work with artists that are making a genuine request to be heard. Though we throw parties from time to time, it’s been difficult to maintain widespread attention for the underground in our hometown of Toronto. We’re here to provide a forum for our favourite DJ / producers and the yet to be discovered gems that continually surface in this scene. It’s what we love most about the underground and why we’ll support it for as long as we can.

Everyone, thanks so much for the support,
Gregor Davidson (editor, bringthebeats)
