If you are curious about how Paul got started or what it’s like to party in Peru, including where the best clubs are, continue reading and you will find out the where, when and why you should make Lima your next party destination!

Lisa: I love this opening track.
Paul: It’s always hard to find the opening track but I got lucky.
Lisa: How long were you searching for tracks for this mix?
Paul: It took one week.

Lisa: You seem like you are searching for tracks a lot, how many hours a day to you spend doing that?
Paul: All day when I am with my computer.

Lisa: So you don’t go to school?
Paul: Yes I go to the university but I have been on holidays since Christmas. I will go back next week
Lisa: Ah ok, what do you study?
Paul: I have been studying graphic design since last year.

Lisa: Thats great, how often are you DJing?
Paul:
I started getting gigs every weekend since NYE. I have some friends involved in the scene so they have helped me out. It was summer here so Asia is open; it’s 97KM south of Lima. It’s the place where all the best clubs are and everyone goes there in summer time. It’s near the beach. It’s like a small city with lot of stores, restaurants and clubs.

Lisa: What club do you play at the most?
Paul: I have played at MAIN every Saturday since January. This Saturday is my last gig.
Lisa: So you have been the resident there, how did that happen?
Paul: I played once and then the manager told me to play every weekend
Lisa: Nice, so why is it your last time?
Paul: Because the season in Asia is ending this weekend. Then the first big party in Lima will be Sasha in 2 weeks.

Lisa: Thats awesome, I would love to go to that. So you are starting winter now?
Paul: I think winter will start soon in May.
Lisa: Are you going to play in any clubs in Lima?
Paul: I made a lot of good contacts this summer so I should start playing some clubs soon.

Lisa: What are the good clubs in Lima?
Paul:
Gotica for me is the best club to play and to party at.

Lisa: What time do the clubs close?
Paul:
In Lima 6-7 am max but in Asia they stay open till 9-10 am. The only club open in Asia at 10am was Mamas but it has been closed since the end of March. That was the club where I met all the crazy people who like after hours. Sometimes it stays open from 9am to 4pm. That club really kills me when I play there ‘cause I have to be awake ‘til Sunday at 9am and then I start playing. The good thing was that I could smoke while I play.

Lisa: Is there a lot of competition to get gigs?
Paul: I was just gonna tell u that, there are lot of DJ’s here but luckily most of them play techno so its perfect for me because I haven’t seen any one playing tracks I play.

Lisa: So is there more of an audience for techno then house?
Paul:
I will say yes, sometimes I had to play techno at after hours but there are some people who have only heard me play house and they tell me that I am the only one who plays like that so I should continue with my style.
Lisa: Yes I agree. This mix you made is more housey then other mixes you have done that were more progressive.
Paul: Yes I think it’s my first mix with full house.
Lisa: What made you decide to make a full house mix?
Paul: Because I found lot of new house tunes.
Lisa: Ya, there is a lot of great music being released.
Paul: Ya a lot, I have to check Beatport all day and some labels on MySpace.

Lisa: What are the labels you search the most?
Paul: Urbantorque, Deepology Digital, Ready Mix Records, Freerange, Dyami, Outside The Box Music, Glideslope Music and many more.

Lisa: This track is great. I like how is mellows out, then picks up again, very melodic.
Paul: I like this part of the mix too, its k-bana I think.

Lisa: Did you vote for anyone for the Beatport awards this year?
Paul: No when I realized those awards were happening the votes were closed
Lisa: Who would you have voted for?
Paul: I think I would have voted for Scope.
Lisa: Ya, he is great.
Paul: His music is amazing.

Lisa: When did you start listening to electronic music?
Paul: I think first CD I heard was Lexicon Avenue – Nite:life 012, amazing CD, then I went to my first party.
Lisa: How long ago was that?
Paul: it was Sasha in 2000.
Lisa: How old were you then?
Paul: 14 I think, I was shocked after the party, ha ha.
Lisa: Wow so young, there is no age limit there, you can drink at any age?
Paul: I think there is no limit; I used to drink at my first parties a lot.
Lisa: So are there a lot of young people at your parties?

Paul: Yeah, that track now is from Inox.
Lisa: Ah nice, the Latenta guys are great. They are doing the closing party for 360 at the end of May.

Lisa: What is the average age of people partying there?
Paul: 18 I think, 20 maybe, there is a good scene here, you can see all ages.
Lisa: Young though, In Toronto people are more like 25-35, same as in Miami.
Paul: Oh I will say here its 15-35.
Lisa: Well the age limit here is 19 and in the US its 21 so that’s why it’s an older crowd.
Paul:
I will be 23 this month on April 29th.
Lisa:
Happy early birthday! What are you going to do for your birthday?
Paul: I will celebrate it at Sasha on the 18th.
Lisa: Great way to celebrate, where is Sasha playing?
Paul: He is playing at Loop Arena, it will be a huge party.
Lisa: How many people are going?
Paul: Around 5000 I think, last time Sasha came was in 2004.

Lisa: You have a mix on Proton in May, what show is that on?
Paul: Brown Eyed Boyz sessions with Mokic
Lisa: How often do you do a mix for them?
Paul: This will be my 3rd time.
Lisa: How did you get involved with them?
Paul: I think last year we start chatting on aim because of p@d, a friend of Mokic, then I met Mokic and we started swapping tunes etc. Mokic is owner of Brown Eyed Boyz Records and P@d also is owner of In Deep Records. Now I’m working with Mokic’s Label as A&R.

Lisa: I like this track “might as well just head out for those hills” I like the vocals
Paul: Cool that track is coming out on a friend’s new label. I host a show at pure.fm with him. It’s called Cromarti Sessions. That track now is 16 bit Lolitas, I’ll see Aarian this Saturday. I am playing that day at MAIN for a few hours then I will go to Joia where he is going to play.

Lisa: What is your goal for DJing this year?
Paul: To make my first track and to make Creamfields.
Lisa: There must be a lot of competition for that.
Paul: I just have to keep working and getting more gigs
Lisa: Great, well good luck!
