A bringthebeats NEW YEAR’S EVE
By barney :: Friday, January 22nd, 2010I don’t think we’ve ever been prouder of our crew for putting on a party. The entire team went all hands on deck to get this one off the ground, and boy did we ever deliver. We’ve had a lot of memorable events over the years, but it’s tough to think of one that was as special as this was.
It’s always been a dream of ours to throw a New Year’s Eve bash, but it’s most definitely not an easy event to pull off. Not only are you in competition with every entertainment establishment in existence, but you’re also going up against the house party night of year. Add the fact many regular clubbers don’t want to deal with all the rookies infesting the streets, dance floors, restaurants, clubs, bars, cabs, coat checks, bathrooms, etc., etc… and you’re up against the world with the last / first promotion of the year.
Specific to small shops like ourselves, we’ve never had access to an artist that could draw a crowd on this night of nights. You really have to go with your ‘can’t miss’ talent if you’re going to be successful on New Year’s Eve. Every year we throw out feelers to our favs, and every year it’s the same old story; “Sorry bro, but I’m making big money on that night. But let’s set something up in the New Year.” Yeah right, when we’re knee deep in snow within -20 temperatures… sure we’ll talk.
New Year’s Eve really is the last ‘for sure’ night to throw a party in the Toronto winter. Like I said, it’s always only been just a dream for us; but this year, our dream finally became a reality. And I’ll also say this again, I couldn’t be prouder of how we all came together and created a night we’ll all always remember despite the many, many factors we were going up against to make it happen.
This review is all about thanks. Thanks to everyone who helped promote the party. Thanks to all who helped the night of the party. Thanks to Carey Britt and the Sound Academy for providing us the incredible Liberation Lounge and the fantastic staff that made the entire night soooo perfect. Thanks to Jason Warth for traveling from Chicago and taking such wicked pics. Thanks to the promoter in Hungary that canceled Luke’s gig and a huge thanks to Mr. Luke Fair for taking a chance on us after they did. And most of all, thanks to every single person that stepped on the dance floor and shared their incredible vibes and infectious energy from the first track to the last.
It was a night we’ll never forget. A night where we left it all on the dance floor, as Luke gave us everything he had in the booth. A night we’ll leave for the amazing people in attendance and not for the internet masses to wish they were there. Sometimes the perfect chemistry of a DJ and the fans just can’t be recreated; this was one of those nights.
It’s a night I will always hold dear in my heart; a night where we once again proved that it’s not just “all about the music”, but sharing it with the right people counts as well. No bells, no whistles, just the tunes of our time and the people who love them as much as we do.
Please, check out our pics, as well as a more artistic view from Jason’s incredible eye.

Perfectly worded G!!! We originally had other plans, but once those got “nixed” and this came up, it was evident what the final place to party was going to be!!! Luke delivered beyond, and then some! And Gregor….once again….thank you for being the gracious host that you are! Glad we were a part of this!!!

That was hands down, one of the most memorable nights of last/this year. I can confidently say that musically wise, Luke put himself to test and delivered more than what he could have probably given on a regular gig. Equally significant, is the fact that the majority-if not all- of the attendees were there for the music and not for the sake of getting drunk and start quarrels all around. Will it get any better than that? Whether that happens, it remains to be seen.
