Outside the Listed Box | Dory & Naveen G

By barney :: Monday, February 23rd, 2009

We’re skipping out on the conference this year, and though it’s always a long winter and even more difficult week at home, it’s not the parties we’ll miss at the WMC. It’s our friends that we only see every March in Miami that we’ll miss most.

Every year we meet so many incredible crews and each conference we look forward to reconnecting with these people under the amazing South Beach sun.  One such group is the Listed collective based out of San Francisco.

Though we kind of come from opposite ends of the EDM spectrum, us on the more funky progressive tip and Listed on the techy, more minimal side, our passion for the scene bonds us in a way that has created a pretty cool relationship based on a mutual respect for the dedication each group has for their cause.

Two Listed DJs we’ve supported since Day 1 are Dory and  Naveen G.  They are both such gifted and unique individuals who are extremely versatile within their sound and willing to venture outside the box to present something different to the dance floor.

Dory will be in town for her first Canadian appearance on June 12th playing alongside another hot female artist named Jade, from right here in Toronto.  Though many of Dory’s bookings are with her Listed mates at minimal events, she’s excited to spin in Toika to display her progressive tastes that continue to have a darker edge, but also an undeniable groove that you know our crew digs so much.

You can find a few of Dory’s progressive gems on this site and lucky us, here’s another… maybe the coolest one we’ve hosted from her to date.  Super deep, gritty and groovy, June 12th is going to be one dope gig.

Naveen G takes intelligent dance music to an entirely other level.  Known for methodical techno, Naveen often ventures outside the Darker Shades to put together eclectic house gems that always intrigue the btb senses.  This is how he describes the mix we’re offering below…

“I’ve been dabbling in other sounds for the last year and it’s gotten to the point where I might have to come up with another name to spin this stuff. It’s mainly all the cosmic / nu disco stuff that Howells has been toying with early in his sets and that SOS has been using.  Hell even Nick Warren is playing some of it.

I figured it was kind of the btb vibe of just good fun party music that’ll put a smile on people’s faces.  It took a hell of a lot of editing and such, as most of this stuff is not fully DJ friendly and not really cut for dance floors yet.”

Be sure to check out the events page for all of the Listed WMC 2009 shenanigans.  There’s a little bit of everything in their bookings, so wish we could be there for them.
