Gabriel Sordo & Neil Quigley – Discoteca 003 on friskyRadio

As we’re starting to wind down the year, we begin our homage to the DJs who helped bringthebeats truly come into our own and become a real player in Toronto’s underground club scene in 2008. Two of these talents were featured in October’s installment of Discoteca on friskyRadio, Gabriel Sordo and Neil Quigley.

Gabriel Sordo traveled to Toronto for the first time this past September and blazed Toika Lounge for the tight btb crew. He’s one of the most versatile talents we’ve ever booked, with interests in deep tech, progressive house and even pop music. His live Somnus Corp act is in full swing touring across Latin America and the southern United States and lucky for us, he’ll be touching down in Toronto for a second solo appearance in early February.

This set, which originally came to us as a ‘Lola Demo’ just a couple weeks after his Toika gig, is a representation of the music we love most and is a carbon copy of what we’d love to hear at every INTIMATE & UNDERGROUND. It’s sexy progressive house with ample emotion and drive. Dance floor music at its finest, in our humble opinion.

Neil Quigley was the first top European talent we had ever booked when we brought him to EXPOSED in November of last year. He helped us open a lot of eyes to what true underground house music is all about in this day in age and he quickly garnered a lot of attention and fans in the Toronto scene with that one appearance.

Neil’s second EXPOSED visit in February truly solidified our musical tastes as a viable commodity within Toronto clubland. The Mod Club dance floor was rammed and groovin’ from beginning to end, further cementing our place in the promotions industry, thanks bro.

Quiggers has been extremely active in the industry over the past couple years. Not only has he toured all over the world, he’s released eight ultra successful productions in ‘07 and ‘08 and has recently unleashed a stream of promos through his new Pacemaker show on Proton Radio. He has a fancy new website thanks to one of favorite btb’ers Nadia Merola and this Discoteca mix is almost as cool as the site’s new look. Great work Nadia and Neil!
